Lexus Confirms CT 200h Hybrid for U.S.
Lexus annouced that the compact premium CT 200h hybrid will go on sale in the U.S. in early in 2011 as the second dedicated hybrid model in the Lexus lineup. The compact 5-door hatchback debute in March at the Geneva Motor Show and will be the smallest model ever sold by Lexus in the U.S. market. The 200h will be on display at the New York International Auto Show March 31 through April 11.
“The CT 200h is expected to lead the class in fuel economy and deliver low emissions, bugt the CT 200h isn’t just about being a hybrid, it’s about having fun,” said Mark Templin, Lexus Division group vice president and general manager. “The stylish CT 200h has an attitude and driving dynamic unlike any other Lexus hybrid. It will excite eco-conscious, young consumers and symbolize urban luxury living.”
The CT 200h is powered by a 1.8-liter Atkinson cycle 4-cylinder gasoline engine combined with tthe Lexus Hybrid Drive Technology that includes two motor generators that each perform certain functions and can operate as both a motor and a generator. The drive motor is powered by electricity stored in the battery pack or directly from the engine-driven generator and assist the gasoline engine in moving the vehcile, through the front wheels.
The Lexus Hybrid Drive components, including the electric motor, generator and power split device are all contained within a housing the size of a traditional transmission and deliver power to the front wheels through a shift-by-wire, electronically-controlled CVT.
