Volvo’s sporty new S60 sedan is the most dynamic sedan ever from Volvo but it doesn’t stray far from the tree, debuting a new safety system, the Pedestrian Detection System with full auto-brake.

The new design combines the front end look of the XC60 with the sleek styling of the C70 coupe to create a visually exciting sedan. Designed to be the sportiest Volvo ever, the S60 will be offered in both Base and Dynamic versions that both offer quicking steering ratio for more responsiveness. For driving enthusiasts, Dynamic adds more aggressive sport suspension components for Dynamic.

Volvo continues it’s safety legacy with new technology for the S60, Pedestrian Detection with Full Auto Brake. The system can detect pedestrians who walk into the road in front of the car and will warn the driver before automatically applying full braking power if the driver does not respond in time.

The new S60 is Volvo’s first sedan equipped with Advanced Stability Control. A new roll angle sensor detects slippage at a very early stage so the anti-skid system can make earlier, more precise adjustments. Building on the promise of a sporty sedan, the S60 includes a new sport setting for the Dynamic Stability Traction Control (DSTC) system that disables the anti-spin system for more active driving with an increase in oversteer.

The all-new S60 will be launched in the U.S. with the T6 engine, an upgraded, more powerful version of the T6 engine currently offered in the XC60 and will be equipped with all-wheel-drive. Scheduled to arrive in the U.S. late in 2010, pricing will be announced closer to the on-sale date.
