Video- Chevy Volt Rescue Training

The people that save us in emergency situations have had to learn dozens of new techniques over the past 5 decades due to ever changing automobile technology. The same airbag that can save an occupant can be deadly in a rescue operation.

Now that the electric car is poised for mainstream acceptance, firefighters and EMTs need to protect themselves from a potentially deadly situation. Recently General Motors took a wrecked Chevy Volt to the west coast for a primer on what to do (and not to do) when it comes to approaching an electric car. Training includes how to sever high voltage cables and extrication procedures unique to electric cars.
