Spyker Cars NV and General Motors announced that they have finalized the purchase of Saab Automobile AB by Spyker. Ownership and operations of Saab are transfered to Spyker, and both Saab and Spyker will operate under Spyker.

General Motors announced that the new Duramax 6.6L Turbo Diesel engine, slated to power the 2011 Chevrolet Silverado and 2011 GMC Sierra heavy-duty pickups will be B20 Biofuel capable. B20 fuel is a blend of 20-percent biodiesel and 80-percent conventional diesel, which helps lower carbon dioxide emissions and lessens dependence on petroleum.

Ford announced plans to update the software of the regenerative braking system of some 2010-model Ford Fusion Hybrids and Mercury Milan Hybrids. Not an official recall, the “customer satisfaction program” is intended to address concerns about the brake feel when the braking system transistions from regenerative to conventional hydraulic braking.

Just as Toyota begins to impliment repairs to address issues with the accelerator pedal in a number of Toyota models, the National Highway Traffic Safety Admininstration (NHTSA) announced it is opening a formal investigation of the 2010 Toyota Prius to look into allegations of momentary loss of braking capability while traveling over an uneven road surface, pothole or bump.

Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A., Inc. announced Feb. 1, 2010 that repairs will begin this week to reinforce the accelerator pedals on previously recalled vehicles.
